This Is Us Styled Shoot
I’ve been waiting to share this for months now al because I wanted to link back to my friend Enyo from Mrs. Lake Weddings! Last year she came to me asking to help her with cake for a styled photoshoot she was organising. I’ve met Enyo Lake about 3-4 years ago when she and her husband came to a cake tasting for their own wedding. That tasting was so much fun and they were just the loveliest couple. In the years we kept bumping in to each other. Holland is a small country and Amsterdam even smaller 😂. So when she asked me if I wanted to collaborate I could only say yes!
What I love about participating in these shoots is that I usually get a very short and totally open brief. This briefing was about this much: Something bohemian that fits in with the location. The bride wears white, so maybe something green. That I can totally work with ❤️
I did changed the layout of these Cake Design Stories a bit to give you an undisturbed story in pretty picture. First you’ll get my bla-bla-bla about the inspiration & the design and then you’ll get a full picture story! Pictory 🤔. There will be copy in the captions for some behind the photo info. But is reading is not your thing? Scroll on down and see it all, no hard feelings 😘.

At that time we were renovating our bedroom. Which was a soft dark green hue and natural elements like wood, terra-cotta, living plants and a touch of glamour with black open lamps with gold bulbs, pink bedding, velvet cushions and luxurious navy & off-white striped headboard. We are still debating on changing the fabric on that thing. The room still needs the last details, like framed artwork, display cases & fun quirky items. Let me know if you want to see it in the comments below.
Another inspiration is paper art! I love paper art. If you don’t know what that is explore the #paperart on instagram or my Paper Art board on Pinterest. It hasn't gotten that many pins, but you will get what paper art is.
Designing this cake was lot’s of fun. As you know I always work with a sketch design before making the parts and the cake itself. I wanted a 4 tier cake would WOW! I did want to use organic shapes and let the sugar plants do the talking. I didn’t want too make the whole cake green & white. I’m sure I’ll make a cake like that in the future, but for now I also wanted to add a bit of quirky and fun in it. So the Happy Noodle pattern was born. Just smiles shaken all up.
I started with a blush base with the hand-painted happy noodle pattern. Following with a gradient from various greens. That was the perfect canvas for the cascading Pilea Plants made from sugar.
The Final Cake
This cake makes me so proud. It’s green, luscious, delicate, quirky and totally 2019. Oh and when the wind blows, the leaves will move slightly giving ut a total breezy & light feel!
I’ve posted some lovely pictures of the styles shoot at the end of my pictory, but be sure to check out all the lovely picture on Mrs. Lake Weddings! I'd love to hear what you think of this cake in the comments below!
